DIY Bow tie crop top from Men's shirt - CHANEL inspired

Welcome or welcome back to my channel. My name is Jess and I love doing DIY, making clothes in a "simply but pretty" way.

Today’s tutorial, I'm going to share with you how I made a bow tie crop top from a men's shirt. I got the inspiration from Chanel collection for spring 2020. I've been seeing it quite often. And even some of you ask me to do it. Plus, it's super cute. So why not give it a try. I made this crop top with my body measurement. But I also tried to show you how I did the measurement. So you can apply to your body size.

I hope you like it and try it out. Let’s get started!

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

  • Men's shirt (XL size)

  • Sewing machine

  • Pins

  • Scissors

  • Ruler

  • Long stick

SEWING THE TOP

First step is cutting off two hands of the shirt.

After that, remove the front pocket.

From the end of the shirt, draw a horizontal line.

Then go up 34 cm from that line — it's the double time the width of your breast.

And we'll have the main body of the crop top after cutting. Also cut the button area.

After that, fold it in half and use the pins to hold the folding.

Measure the width of the back, which is the width between two sides of the shirt. Then mark in the middle.

From that mark, go to the left 12 cm and do the same for the right.

So the width between them will be the width between 2 breasts.

Now cutting the rest of the men's shirt and using the top fabric from the back of the men's shirt to make the shoulder ties for the crop top.

Draw 2 rectangles with 3 cm width and 40 cm length.

Fold 2 rectangles in half. Then sew.

To upside the rectangle, use a small safety pin.

Then use the iron to make the seams look nicer.

After that, put the shoulder ties to inside the main body of the crop top.

One end of the tie will be at the mark that was made before — the middle of your breast.

The other end will be measured by the width of your arm.

Use the pins to hold them all together. Then sew.

Upside to hide your sewing to inside. And use the iron to keep the seam straight.

After that, fold 2 ends of the main body together by the pins. Then sew.

At the back of the main body, draw the horizontal lines with 1 cm away from each other.

Then sew by the drawing lines with the elastic band as the under thread.

By doing that, the crop top will be easy to fix to your body when wearing.

Turn to the front of the main body. Draw a straight line at the middle of two shoulder ties.

Then sew with the elastic band as the under thread. It'll make the front of the crop top fit to your breast and not show it when wearing.

Now making the bow tie for the crop top by using the hands from the men's shirt.

Cut off the end of the hand first.

Then fix the hand to make sure the seam and the open button will be in the same face.

After that, fold the hand in half and draw a line which is 20 cm from the crease.

After cutting, you will have a half of the bow tie.

Do the same for the other hand to get the other half of the bow tie.

Now connecting two halves of the bow tie together at 2 sides by the pins. Then sew.

Don't forget to overlocking to protect your cutting.

After sewing, turn the seams inside to hide the sewing.

Then make a seam at the middle by hand and pull the thread after that to create the bow tie.

To make the section below of the bow tie, use the leftover fabric from the back of the men's shirt.

Fold it in half.

Then cut two sides. So the width of this part will be 18 cm width and around 50 cm length.

Use the pins to hold the folding before sewing.

However, keep a small un-sewn space at the middle to upside it later.

Use a chopstick to upside it.

Then use the iron to keep the seams straight.

After that, draw a horizontal line at the middle.

Then hand-sewn it to create the section below of the bow tie — just like what was done to the bow tie before.

To keep the bow tie and the section below it together, make a small band with 3 cm width and 15 cm length.

Then fold it in half and sew.

Don't forget to iron it after sewing to make it nice and also hide the seam inside.

Now connecting the bow tie and the section below it together.

Use a thread to hold them first.

Then use the small band to cover them outside.
And hand-sewn to close the band.

After that, connect the bow tie to the main body of the crop top.

Connect the small band of the bow tie to the middle of the main body at the top of the elastic seam.

To keep two sides of the bow tie to the main body, also hand-sewn the inside of each part to the main body at the shoulder ties.
