3 DIY CUTE CROP TOP from T-Shirt

In this tutorial, I’m thrilled to share 3 simple and creative ways to refashion your old T-shirt into a cute crop top. Whether you’re a fan of chic, casual, or quirky styles, there’s a design for you.

The best part? These DIY projects are super easy! With just a bit of cutting and sewing, you can create your own adorable crop top in less than 30 minutes. No professional sewing skills required!

So, if you’re ready to give your old T-shirts a new lease of life, you’re in the right place. Let’s get started!

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

  • T-shirt

  • Measuring tape

  • Tailor’s chalk

  • Scissors

  • Pins

  • Sewing machine

  1. RUFFLE HEM V-NECK CROP TOP

Mark a point 30 cm down from the shoulder of the t-shirt. Draw a line across the shirt at this point and cut along this line.

Next, draw a V-line from both sides of the neck to the middle of the end.

At the end, go up 5 cm and mark there. Then, draw a curved line from this mark down to the end and cut along this line.

Using the leftover fabric from the t-shirt, cut two rectangles each with a width of 14 cm.

Connect them together at one side.

Create a stitch along one edge of the rectangle to create the ruffle.

Connect the ruffle to the end of the top, starting at the sides and then connecting the rest. Use pins to hold them together before sewing.

Fold the end of the ruffle and the two sides of the V-neck inward to hide the cutting, then sew.

Use the end of the t-shirt to create the ties for the crop top. Cut them nicely as they already have the current sewing.

Sew a curved seam at one side to shape the tie.

After sewing, use a long stick to turn the ties right side out.

Connect the ties at the end of the V-neck where it meets the ruffle, then sew.

And voila! Here's the final transformation. It's such a cute but sexy crop top and it's so easy to make from your old t-shirt in less than 30 minutes

2. RUFFLE OFF THE SHOULDER CROP TOP

Draw a line under the neck, at the middle of the hands. Then, cut from the hands to the drawing line.

From the top, go down 23 cm and draw a line to create the main body of the crop top.

After that, overlock to protect your cutting.

At two sides of the hands, fold the fabric inside to hide the cutting. Use pins to hold your folding then sew.

At the end of the t-shirt, make two rectangles with 14 cm width.

Then, connect two rectangles together at two sides to become a circle.

After sewing, fold one edge of the circle inside to hide the cutting before sewing.

Then, connect the circle to the main body of the crop top. Make sure two sides of the circle are equal. Use pins to fix the circle to the top of the main body then sew.

After that, use an elastic band to create the ruffle for the top. Measure the width of the elastic band to know how long of the length you need to fold in.

When sewing, keep a small un-sewn fabric to put the elastic band inside later. Use safety pins to put the elastic band inside the fabric hole.

Then, sew two ends of the elastic band together after that and close the fabric hole.

To the end of the crop top, do the same as what you did to the top by using the elastic band to make it fit to your body when wearing.

And voila! You’ve successfully transformed a simple t-shirt into a chic ruffle off the shoulder crop top. This crop top is not only cute but also easy to mix with a pant or a skirt. And isn’t it easy to make from your old t-shirt?

3. SMOCKED CROP TOP TIE UP

With this DIY, use a bigger t-shirt than your size.

Draw a line 34 cm from the end of the t-shirt. This will be the main body of the crop top. Feel free to adjust the length to your preference.

After overclocking, fold the top inside to hide the cutting, then sew.

From the top, go down 2 cm and draw a line there.

From this line, draw additional lines 1 cm apart. These will be the lines to sew the shirring later.

To make the ties, use the leftover fabric from the top of the t-shirt. Draw four rectangles each with an 8 cm width.

Fold the rectangle in half using pins, then sew. Remember to make a curved seam at one end of the tie.

After sewing, use a stick to turn the ties right side out.

Then, fix the ties to the main body of the crop top at two sides of the hands.

It's a super easy DIY but the outcome is just so cute
