DIY JUMPSUIT from scratch - Jumpsuit month series - Ep 2

Welcome or welcome back to my channel. My name is Jess and I love doing DIY, making clothes in a "simply but pretty" way.

The second DIY for my "Jumpsuit month" series today is this high requested jumpsuit. I made it from loose linen in green color. It's getting hot here and also going to summer soon. So linen is a great material for this season. This jumpsuit is not only comfortable to wear but also very cute and perfect for your weekend outfit.

So I hope you will try it out. Let’s get started!

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

  • Loose linen

  • Pattern paper

  • Sewing machine

  • Pins

  • Scissors

  • Ruler

  • Long stick

  • Zipper

MAKING THE PATTERNS

Here’s the pattern for the project. To get a clear understanding of all the measurements needed for the pattern, watch the video from 0:21 to 4:43.

Remember, you can adjust these measurements to fit your own dimensions!

THE FRONT OF THE JUMPSUIT PATTERN

  1. Draw a rectangle with 35 cm width which is one and a half times the quarter of your hip size and 140 cm length which is the length from your shoulder to your ankle.

  2. At the left side of the top, go to inside 75 cm which is the length from your shoulder to over the crotch, and make the mark there.

  3. Make the second mark at 15 cm down from the top.

  4. Then connect 2 marks together and draw a curved line to create the crotch of the jumpsuit.

  5. After that, mark at 20 cm to the right from the bottom of the left side which is the width from your shoulder to over the armpit.

  6. Then draw a curved line from the mark to inside 5 cm to create a hand area of the jumpsuit.

  7. From the curved line, mark at 6 cm on the left line.

  8. From the crotch line, mark at 20 cm.

  9. Then connect 2 marks together to create the neck area for the jumpsuit.

  10. Down to the end of the rectangle, from the top, go down 15 cm and mark there.

  11. Then connect that mark to the end of the crotch line to create the legs of the jumpsuit.

THE BACK OF THE JUMPSUIT PATTERN

  1. Do quite similar to the front. However, the rectangle will be 35 cm and 142 cm.

  2. From the top of the left side, go to inside 77 cm which is the length from your shoulder to over the crotch + 2 cm.

  3. From the top, go down 15 cm and mark there.

  4. Then connect that mark to the one just made before and draw a curved line to create the crotch of the jumpsuit. However, draw a big curve line at the end to fit your butt when wearing.

  5. From the bottom of the left line, go up 5 cm.

  6. Then draw another curve line down to 22 cm which is the width from your shoulder to over the armpit + 2 cm to create the hand area of the jumpsuit.

  7. Then create a neck area similar to what was done to the front.

  8. Do the same to have the legs area of the jumpsuit too.

SEWING THE JUMPSUIT

After cutiing, don't forget to overlock the fabric to protect the cuttings.

Use a zigzag stitching and overlocking presser foot to do it.

At the front of the jumpsuit, hold 2 crotched lines together by the pins and sew.

From the end of the hands area, go down 11 cm and mark there.

From that mark, go inside 9 cm and mark the second one.

Then go up 5 cm from there to make the third mark.

And connect it to the first mark.

After that, draw two lines at two sides of the first one with 1 cm away from each other.

Fold them together and sew. You will have the bust area of the jumpsuit.

Do the same for another side.

Cut a little bit off the two sidelines.

To the back of the jumpsuit, at the crotched line, mark at 40 cm from the top.

Then sew them together from there down to the end.

Now making the back pockets of the jumpsuit.
Draw two rectangles with 25 cm length and 17 cm width.

From the top, go down 6 cm and draw a horizontal line.

Then fold the top of the fabric to that line and sew it.

After sewing, use the iron to create the folding for the pockets.

The position for the pocket will be at your butt area. From the end of the hands, go down 32 cm which is right at your butt and mark there.

Then put the pocket at 6 cm inside that mark.

Use the pins to fix the pocket to the back of the jumpsuit. Then sew.

Now making the side pockets of the jumpsuit.

Draw the rectangle with 25 cm length and 17 cm width.

Then draw a small curve line at one side and a big curve line at the opposite side to create a pocket.

You will need to make 4 patterns like this.

The position for the side pockets will be under your belly, right at your hip.

From the end of the hands, go down 27 cm and mark there.

Then connect the pockets to the front and the back of the jumpsuit at two sides and sew.

Next step is connecting the front and the back of the jumpsuit together at two sides and at the legs.

Use the pins to fix the right position first. Then sew.

To make the hole for the pockets, make a seam as 16 cm to the end.

Now finishing the end of the jumpsuit by folding the end of the fabric inside and sew.

At the top of the jumpsuit, fix two parts of the shoulder together.

Then sew. Remember to sew it slightly down from inside to outside.

Next step, cut four fabric lines with 3 cm width.

Then fix one edge of the fabric line to the neck and the hand of the jumpsuit and make the first seam.

After that, fold the rest of the fabric line double time inside to hide cutting and finish the seam.

The last step is installing the zipper to the back of the jumpsuit. Use the invisible zipper to make it look nicer.

Fix the position for the zipper first. Then sew.

Hand-sew the end of the zipper after that.

Cut a long fabric line with 10 cm width to make the belt for the jumpsuit.

Fold two edges of the fabric line together. Then sew.

Remember to keep a small un-sew space at the middle to upside the belt.

Then iron to straighten the seam after that.
