DIY Mini Skirt from T-Shirt

Welcome and welcome back to my sewing blog!

Today's video is another idea for you to refashion your old T-Shirt into a cute and trendy summer skirt. And it's very easy to make as well. You could make this skirt without worrying about the measurement as it'll fit easily to your body by the elastic band. Besides that, it's also very comfortable to wear in house as your home outfit too.

I hope you like this idea and give it a try.

So le't’s get started!

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

  • T-Shirt with big size

  • Pattern paper

  • Sewing machine

  • Pins

  • Scissors

  • Ruler

  • Long stick

SEWING THE SKIRT

THE BODY

The first step is to remove the sleeves of the t-shirt.

After that, draw a horizontal line right under the hand.

Then, cut along the drawn line.

At the end of the t-shirt, go up 8cm and draw a horizontal line.

After that, use the fabric from the sleeves to cut another 8cm fabric lines.

After cutting, connect each piece of fabric together to have a long fabric line.

Then, overlock one edge of the fabric line using zigzag stitching and a fake overlocking presser foot.

Now, make a loose seam to create a frill for one edge of the fabric.

After sewing, hold one thread and pull another one.

And, you will have the frill part.

At the main body of the t-shirt, measure the width first.

Then mark at the middle. And it’s 16cm each part.

Then, cut along the drawing line to have 2 rectangles.

Keep the top rectangle to use later and work on the bottom one first.

At the leftover fabric of the t-shirt, cut another rectangle with 16cm.

Then connect it to the bottom rectangle to have a long fabric line.

Do similar to what was done before, overlock one edge of the long rectangle first. Then make a loose seam after to create the frill.

Remember to check the length of the frill to fit the length of the top rectangle that was kept before.

Now, connect the frill to the top rectangle. Use pins to hold them together.

Then, sew along the pinned line.

After that, connect the second and also the last layer to the end of the first layer. Then, sew along the pinned line.

Now, just need to sew one side together.

THE WAISTBAND

To make the waistband for the skirt, use the leftover fabric from the top of the t-shirt.

Draw 3 rectangles with 6cm width.

Then connect each rectangle together to become a waistband. Remember to check and make sure the length of the waistband fits with the length of the body of the skirt.

After that, fold two edges of the waistband together.

Then fix it to the top of the skirt. And sew along the pinned line.

Remember to keep a small un-sewn space for the elastic band later.

As usual, use two safety pins to put the elastic band inside.

Then, sew the 2 ends of the elastic band together.

And sew the un-sewn space to finish the waistband.
