DIY Paper bag skirt from old jeans - Idea to reuse your old jeans
DIY Paper bag skirt from old jeans
Welcome and welcome back to my sewing blog!
Today I'm going to share with you how I reused my old and small jeans and transformed it into a paper bag skirt. I think this DIY is pretty easy that you can do it with your old jeans. But the result is very cute and suitable for different occasions. Because it has a elastic band at the waist. So you don't have to worry about if it fit your size or not.
So let’s get started!
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
A pair of old jeans in a small size
Elastic band (2 cm width)
Safety pins
Fabric pins
Thread
Measuring tape
Scissors
Fabric marker
Sewing machine
Seam ripper
SEWING THE SKIRT
THE BODY
First step, fold one leg of the jeans to the front pocket and check the length—it's 44 cm.
After that, measure that length from the end of the legs and draw a line.
After cutting, there will be two pieces of the legs with a 44 cm length.
Cut one side of the leg to open it.
Then measure the length of the legs without the ending seam—it's 42 cm.
After cutting the ending seam, make two rectangles with the maximum width of the legs, which is 23 cm.
THE TOP
Moving to the top of the jeans, un-sew the two back pockets.
Then cut the seam at the two legs and the crotch lines.
After that, make two rectangles with 42 cm length and the maximum width available from them.
In the end, there will be four pieces of the skirt.
Overlock the fabric before gathering them together with pins.
Then, sew.
Ensure the width of the skirt is at least half of the hip size plus 10 cm or bigger.
THE WAISTBAND
Draw a straight line at 6 cm under the top.
Then, draw another line in the middle, which is 3 cm under the top.
Fold the fabric inside at the 6 cm line and use pins to hold the fold. Then, sew along the 3 cm line.
Use an elastic band with a 2 cm width for this skirt.
Measure the width of the elastic band into the skirt before sewing.
Use safety pins to insert the elastic band inside.
Then, close the hole.
For the end of the skirt, fold the fabric inside to hide the raw edge, then sew.
THE BELT
The next step is making the belt for the skirt using leftover fabric from the waistband of the jeans.
Un-sew the waistband first.
Then, remove the lining fabric.
Connect each piece together and sew to create a long belt.
Fold the two edges of the belt inside along the old fold to hide the raw edges, then sew.
This creates the fabric belt for the skirt.
To keep the belt on the skirt, make belt loops using those from the old jeans.
Use three of them: two on the sides…
…and one in the middle at the back. Sew them into the skirt at the waistband.

And that’s the final transformation!
This skirt turned out so cute and versatile, perfect for mixing and matching with different tops. I paired it with a white shirt for a formal look, but it would also be great with a crop top for something more casual.
And it won't be too difficult to make. So I hope you will give it a try.
