DIY PARTY DRESS - Deep V-neck open back dress

Welcome or welcome back to my channel!

I’m back with another DIY party dress just in time for Christmas and New Year 2020. I’ll be showing you how to create a deep V-neck, open-back dress that’s both elegant and a little bit sexy—perfect for your holiday celebrations.

Let’s get started!

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

  • Spandex fabric with a twinkle and a black lining

  • Pattern paper

  • Sewing machine

  • Pins

  • Scissors

  • Ruler

  • Long stick

SEWING THE DRESS

THE TOP PATTERN

The top pattern

  1. Draw two rectangles with a width of 40 cm (half of the bust size) and a length of 30 cm (from shoulder to underbust).

  2. From the left side, measure 18 cm inward (a quarter of the underbust size) and draw a straight line from there.

  3. From that line, measure down 15 cm (the width from shoulder to armpit) and mark the spot.

  4. On the right side, measure 10 cm inward and mark the spot.

  5. Connect that mark to the end of the right side, then draw a curved line to connect the three marks together.

Repeat the same process for the black linen fabric.

After cutting, connect the main fabric to the lining with pins to form the top of the dress.

THE TIE

Draw two rectangles with a width of 4 cm and a length of 60 cm.

Then, draw two shorter rectangles with a width of 4 cm and a length of 8 cm.

Fold the rectangles in half, pin them in place, and then sew.

After sewing, use safety pins to turn them inside out.

Connect the long tie to the top of the triangle that forms the top of the dress.

And connect the short tie to the end of the triangle, 15 cm from the end.

Don’t forget to insert a circle ring into the short tie before connecting them.

Sew them together.

Then, sew another seam next to the previous one to keep the fabric on one side.

Use an iron to keep them stay there after that.

Overlock the end of the triangle to connect the main fabric to the lining.

Then, make a bind stitch to create a ruffle for the front of the top, focusing on the bust area.

Remember just do it for the bust area.

Make sure that the width at the end is half the underbust size.

THE WAISTBAND

Draw a rectangle with a width of 6 cm and a length of 72 cm (the underbust size plus 2 cm).

Repeat the process on the lining fabric as well.

Connect the waistband to the top of the dress, ensuring that the triangle at the top is positioned between the two waistbands.

Pin them in place, then sew.

After sewing, sew another seam next to the previous one to keep the fabric on one side.

Overlock the end of the waistband to connect the main fabric to the lining.

THE BOTTOM

Draw a rectangle with a width of 92 cm (double the hip size, or longer if desired) and a length of 50 cm (from underbust to just over the buttocks, or longer if preferred).

Repeat the same process for the black linen fabric.

After cutting, make a bind stitch at one edge of the rectangle to create a ruffle for the bottom of the dress.

The longer the rectangle, the more flowing the bottom will be.

However, make sure that the width of the bottom matches the length of the waistband.

CONNECTING THE TOP AND THE BOTTOM

Connect the top and bottom of the dress at the waistband, positioning the top between the bottom layers.

Pin them in place, then sew.

After sewing, sew another seam next to the first one to keep the fabric on one side.

Overlock the two sides of the bottom rectangle to connect the main and lining fabrics together.

Next, install the zipper at the back of the dress.

Pin the two sides of the zipper to the bottom first, then open the zipper to pin the rest, and sew.

Sew the remaining portion of the bottom under the zipper together.

For the top of the zipper, hand-sew to hide the extra on to inside.

The final step is to connect the long tie to the short tie, crossing them to form an X-line on the back.
