DIY ruched crop top from old T-shirt in 3 different ways - Another way to re-use your old T-shirts

Welcome or welcome back to my channel. My name is Jess and I love doing DIY, making clothes in a "simply but pretty" way.

In today’s tutorial, I'm going to share with you 3 different ways to transform your old T-shirt into a cute (and sexy) ruched crop top. So if you have some extra T-shirt that you didn't use for long time and about to through it away. It's time to make them useful.

So let's get started!

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

  • T-shirt

  • Sewing machine

  • Pins

  • Scissors

  • Ruler

  • Long stick

  1. RUCHED SIDE CROP TOP

To make this crop top, use the small size T-shirt. That is a little tight to your body.

First, measure the length of the crop top. From the neck, go down 38 cm, which is the width from your shoulder to your belly button.

Then, draw a horizontal line and cut.

After that, fold the end of the crop top to the inside to hide the cutting. Use the pins to hold the folding.

Then, sew.

At the leftover fabric of the T-shirt, cut two rectangles with 4 cm width.

Also, draw a straight line at the middle of each rectangle.

After that, fix each rectangle to each side of the crop top, right under the hand.

Then, sew the middle line and also two sides of the rectangle.

Now, make the ruched ties for the crop top. Draw four rectangles with 3cm width.

Then, fold two edges of the rectangle inside, at the middle. Then, fold again. So, it'll be like making bias tape. Use the pins to hold the folding.

Then, sew.

After that, use a safety pin to put each tie inside the fabric hole—two ruched ties at each side.

Then, sew one end of the ruched tie to close the fabric hole.

And we’ve finished this DIY! Here’s the final look — the ties on both sides make this crop top cute but also a little sexy.

2. RUCHED V-NECK CROP TOP

To make this crop top, use the medium size T-shirt, which is the T-shirt that's not too tight to your body.

The first step is measuring the length of the crop top. From the neck, go down 38 cm, which is the width from your shoulder to your belly button.

Then, draw a horizontal line and cut.

After that, at the line under the hand, mark at the middle.

From there, connect that mark to two sides of the neck to create the V-neck. Also, draw a straight line from that mark down to the end of the crop top.

Then, cut by the drawing lines.

The next step is to finish the end of the crop top by folding it inside to hide the cutting. Use the pins to hold them together.

Then, sew.

At the leftover fabric, draw a rectangle with 2.5 cm width. It'll be the lining fabric for the neck.

After cutting, fix the rectangle to the neck. Then, sew.

After the first seam, fold the leftover fabric of the rectangle inside. Then, use the pins to hold the folding and sew.

Also, use the pins to hold two sides of the front crop top together.

Then, draw a straight line with 2 cm from the outside. Then, sew at that line.

After that, sew another seam at two sides to make the fabric holes.

Now, make the tie for the crop top from the leftover fabric. Draw a rectangle with 3 cm width.

Then, fold two edges of it to the inside at the middle. Then, keep folding it again. It'll be like making a bias tape. Use the pins to hold the folding.

Then, sew.

After that, use a safety pin to put the tie to go inside one fabric hole, from the end to the top.

Then, go down to the other fabric hole from the top to the end.

And we’ve finished this DIY! Here’s the final result — a cute crop top with a front tie that’s also very comfortable to wear.

3. DOUBLE RUCHED CROP TOP

To make this crop top, use the small size T-shirt that is pretty tight to your body.

First, cut the main body of the crop top. From the end of the T-shirt, go up 26 cm, which is the width from the upper breast to the belly button.

Then, draw a horizontal line and cut.

After cutting, fold the end of the top inside to hide the cutting. Then, sew.

At the top of the T-shirt, draw four rectangles with 3 cm width. They'll be the ties for the crop top.

Doing similar to what was done before, fold two edges of the rectangle inside at the middle.

Then, fold it again. It's like making a bias tape. Then, sew.

At the leftover fabric of the top, cut another two rectangles with 4 cm width.

Also, draw a line at the middle of each rectangle. They'll be the fabric holes for the crop top.

From the outside of the main body, go to the inside 8 cm and draw a straight line.

After that, fix the rectangles to that line with pins. Then, sew at the middle.

After the first seam, make another seam at two sides of each rectangle to create the fabric hole.

Turn to the back of the main body. From the outside, go to the inside 8 cm and mark there.

Then, fix two ties at that mark. And sew to hold them together.

Now, just move two ties from the back to the front, going through the fabric hole to the end.
