DIY Ruffle wrap dress from T Shirt

Welcome and welcome back to my sewing blog!

Today’s tutorial, I'm going to share with you how I transformed T-Shirts into Ruffle wrap dress with a very detail and step by step tutorial. This dress fixes to any size easily. So you don't have to worry too much about the measurement. I hope you'll enjoy this DIY and subscribe to my channel to see my other ones.

So let’s get started!

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

  • 02 T-Shirts (one with your size and one bigger)

  • Sewing machine or needle and thread

  • Elastic band

  • Pins

  • Scissors

SEWING THE DRESS

THE TOP

The first step is to use a t-shirt in your size to create the top for the dress.

From the shoulder at the neck, measure straight down 40 cm, which is the length from your shoulder to your belly button.

Draw a horizontal line at this mark.

Measure the length of the bottom of the shirt and mark the middle point.

From this middle point, draw lines to connect it to both sides of the neck, creating a deep V-neck shape.

Cut along the drawn lines, including the back of the neck, to create the top of the dress.

THE BOTTOM

Next, take a larger t-shirt to create the bottom of the dress.

Draw a horizontal line right under the sleeves and cut along this line.

At the bottom of the shirt, measure 20 cm in from the right side and mark this point.

Connect this mark to the top of the shirt on the same side, drawing an arc line.

Cut along this line to form the bottom of the dress.

THE RUFFLE

To make the ruffle for the bottom, use the end of the t-shirt in your size.

Measure the width of the fabric and divide it into three parts, each 9 cm wide.

Cut these parts to create the ruffle strips.

Connect the strips together to form a long piece of fabric.

Make a loose seam along one edge of the long fabric to create the ruffle.

The way to make the loose seam is using the maximum of the thread range in your sewing machine. And sewing it as normal.

Then, pull one thread while holding the other to gather the fabric and create the ruffle.

Attach the ruffle to the bottom part of the dress along the curved line.

Use pins to hold them together before sewing.

To make the ends of the ruffle look nicer, cut a curved line at each end.

Then, you will have the ruffle of the dress.

THE TIES

For the ties, use fabric from the top of the large t-shirt.

Draw two rectangles, each 9 cm wide and as long as possible from the available fabric.

Cut and connect these rectangles with pins and sew them to create the long tie for the dress.

For the short tie, use fabric from the sleeves of the large t-shirt.

Cut rectangles 9 cm wide and as long as possible from the sleeves.

Then, connect and sew them as you did with the long tie.

Fold the edges of each tie together with pins and sew, creating a curved seam at one end of each tie to close it.

After that, turn the ties right side out with a long stick.

Then, iron it to make it nicer.

Use leftover fabric from the neck of the large t-shirt to make a long strip 2 cm wide. This will be used to hem the neck of the dress.

Attach one edge of the long fabric strip to the edge of the neck with pins, then sew.

After the first seam, fold the other edge of the fabric strip inside and sew another seam, ensuring the second seam is larger than the first to hide it.

CONNECTING THE TOP AND THE BOTTOM

Finally, connect the top and bottom parts of the dress at the waistline using pins to hold them together, then sew.

Attach the short tie to one end of the waistline and the long tie to the other end.

Because the long tie is on the right side of the dress, make a small hole on the left side for the long tie to pass through.

Sew the ends of the hole to secure the fabric and prevent fraying.
